Coral
Coral Citron is the artistic director and main choreographer for Fiesta Flamenca. She received her initial dance training in Los Angeles, studying ballet from the age of seven until fifteen and modern dance while at UCLA. She was a member of the Richard Oliver Dance Company and the international folk dance group, Westwind. She began her studies in flamenco in 1978 studying in Los Angeles with Luisa Triana, Teo Morca, Inesita, Linda Vega, Carla Luna and Roberto Amaral.
Ms. Citron was a principal dancer with Roberto Amaral's company, Ballet Espanol de Los Angeles in 1985 and a dancer at the famous El Cid Restaurant. In 1985, she moved to Madrid, Spain, where she studied at the famous Amor de Dios studio with La Tati, Maria Magdalena, El Guito, Carmen Cortez and Merche Esmeralda. While in Madrid, she danced at a restaurant (tablao) in the neighboring town of Talavera de la Reina. In the spring of 1986, she was conttracted by the company of Paco Mundo and Maria Velazquez and taken to the island of Mallorca where the company performed n hotels, restaurants, theaters, and even in the famous caves of Mallorca. After fulfilling her contract, Ms. Citron remained in Mallorca and continued to dance in various venues, such as the 1800 seat Es Foguero Palace with the Ballet Fantasia and in a medieval castel called Sálqueria des Comtes.
In 1992, she moved to Las Vegas and began teaching for Clark County School District as a bilingual second grade teacher as well as beginning to teach flamenco privately. In 1997, along with five professional dancers, she formed Fiesta Flamenca, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing authentic, traditional flamenco dance and music to the growing Las Vegas community.
Fiesta Flamenca has performed in many restaurants, the Summerline Library Theater, the Flamingo Hilton and with the Gypsy Kings at the Hard Rock Hotel. The gruop was pleased to bring Inesita to Las Vegas to perform at the Nicholas Horn Theater at the Community College of Southern Nevada. Ms Citron and Fiesta Flamenca were able to sponsor a workshop by Antonio Vargas of Strictly Ballrom fame and a flamenco dance program with Mr. Vargas at the Starbright Theater in Summerlin and also at the Nicholas Horn Theater. Ms. Citron travels to Spain every year to hone her skills and take in the flamenco spirit. She has taught at the intensive summer institute for Nevada Ballet Theater.
